1 million North Koreans reached!
In December 2020, we reached a campaign milestone of collecting 100,000 USB drives and SD cards. Our field partners estimate that each drive reaches and is shared by approximately 10 people, which means that since 2016, this campaign has affected approximately 1 million North Koreans.
Stored on these drives are foreign films (mainly Korean dramas and comedies but also Hollywood classics such as “Titanic” and the “Bourne” series), documentaries (on the Korean War, the Arab Spring, and entrepreneurship), e-books, soap operas, music, newspaper clippings, and Korean-language Wikipedia pages – all of which enable North Koreans to access a world of information that is systemically kept from them. Through flash drives, North Koreans can experience a reality that is not clouded by censorship, intellectual oppression, and violence from the Kim regime.
Thanks to your support, HRF has disseminated approximately 50 million hours of reading material and 2.1 million hours of smuggled footage within the Hermit Kingdom.
